Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes has released "Mercy" on 18 August 2016. Co-writtten by Mendes, Ilsey Juber, Danny Parker and Teddy Geiger, "Mercy" is the second single from his second studio album, "Illuminate" (2016). The music video of the song was released on 21 September 2016 directed by Jay Martin, featuring Mendes singing in two different scenes, one with him drowning in a locked car in the sea while the other showing him performing the song with instruments.

On 3 December 2016, Mendes performed "Mercy" on Saturday Night Live and tweeted, "Never been so emotionally consumed in a song in my life. Thank you @nbcsnl. Thank you guys for getting me here." "Million Reasons" is another song from Lady Gaga's fifth album "Joanne" (2016). Besides, it is also the album's second single after the famous "Perfect Illusion". Written by Gaga, Hillary Lindsey and Mark Ronson, "Million Reasons" delves on  heartbreak and hope during a relationship. The song is back by only guitar and piano, not to mention Lady Gaga's powerful vocal! A little fact about her current "Joanna" album, it is actually named after Gaga's middle name (her birth name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) which is given to her as a tribute to her father's late sister.

I instantly fell in love with this song the first time I listened to it when it was released on 5 October 2016 on her YouTube channel. In addition, I like how Lady Gaga presented her self in  "Joanna" album, where she steps away from her usual bombastic attires and make-ups, and just be her true self. Her live performance of "Million Reasons" at the recent American Music Awards 2016 is as amazing as her lyrics video, if not better! What do you think about the song? Recently, English indie pop band Bastille releases a live version of his lead single from their second studio album ,"Wild World (2016)",  "Good Grief" at Capitol Studio in their YouTube channel. Written by Bastille frontman Dan Smith, the song highlights the feeling of grief and loss, be it due to loss of a relationship or death. According to Smith, "It could be a massive celebration of someone, or hugely sad. There could be moments of euphoria and people getting pissed and collapsing on the floor". He further added, grief is a "complicated reality".

Personally, somehow I can feel the tone of sadness from the song and it has meaningful lyrics. Besides, I like the live version better than the original version of the song. The music video of the song was debuted on 22 June 2016. Well, I think the music video is pretty confusing at times. What do you think of Bastille's "Good Grief"? Several weeks ago, I kept hearing this song playing on the radio repeatedly and I found out that it is "Closer" which is sang by American DJ called The Chainsmokers. In addition, the song also features American singer Halsey! One of the members from The Chainsmokers, Andrew Taggart also provides his vocals in that particular song.

In all honesty, I have to admit that the song itself is amazing and it has basically topped the charts in more than ten countries ranging from Australia, US, Canada to the UK. Nonetheless, I feel that the song is much better in the music video than the artists singing it live. Not being judgy but Andrew Taggart's vocal is just way off compared to the original voice in the track. Halsey, on the other hand, is doing fine and her voice is fantastic. This amazing piece of song, '"Unsteady" is sang by American rock band X Ambassadors. Apart from being their third single from the band's debut studio album VHS, "Unsteady" is also used as oe of the soundtracks in the "Me Before You" film. In the music video of the song, it highlights the life of a married couple with an alcoholic husband. While the husband and wife are arguing with each other, there are scenes of the couple earlier in life at a diner that are inserted in between the argument scene. Joseph Schooling, 21, beat his idol Michael Phelps in the 100-meter butterfly event at Rio 2016 on Saturday 13 August 2016. In tandem, he also won Singapore's first-ever Olympic gold medal! Prior to this, he was just another Singaporean schoolboy like others. It was back in 2008 when he first met his hero, the Olympic gold medalist at a training camp when the US Olympic swim team visited Singapore and asked for a photo with him. Who would ever thought that eight years later he managed to beat Phelps, along with Chad le Clos, and Laszlo Cseh, not to mention secure a gold medal for his country. In addition, the Asian champion also set a new Olympic record of 50.39 seconds at the 100-meter butterfly event.

Hail from Singapore, Schooling moved to the US for an extensive training at a young age of 14 and went to Colles School in Jacksonville in Florida. After that, he further his studies at the University of Texas where he also met his girlfriend Casey Shomaker, who is also a student from the same university. According to Schooling, "It feels great, it kinds of feels surreal right now, it's crazy... I really can't describe how this moment feels. All the adrenaline is running through my veins right now. It's a dream come true...I'm really honoured and privileged to swim alongside some of these great names, people who changed the face of our sport... I can't really tell you how grateful I am to have this change to swim in an Olympic final and to represent our country."

Norwegian DJ Kygo recently released fifth single, "Raging" from his debut album "Cloud Nine" on May 2016. The song also features vocals from the eminent Irish rock band Kodaline and includes writing credits from English singer-songwriter James Bay. In addition, the music video of the Raging was released to his offical YouTube channel, KygoOfficialVEVO on 23 May 2016. It tells the melancholy story of a young Brazilian couple struggling with love and loss. The lady leaves the guy upon waking up from sleep without telling her boyfriend. Once the guy realises that she is gone, he frantically dresses himself and leaves the house searching for her. While he is looking for her, the places remind him of their relationship which has unfolded in Rio de Janerio admist scenes of political unrest. After checking several places, he finally finds her in the midst of a protest that is happening on a street and he hugs her tightly. At the end of the video, they are boarding a plane to Paris. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a Happy New Year! 2015 has been pretty wonderful as I have managed to do things that I have written in my bucket list. Although there were ups and downs that have happened throughout the year, I must say that the sweet moments did outweigh bitter ones. It is all right if you have experienced terrible events in 2015 as the saying goes, "let bygones be bygones".
