Recently I have came across this song called "Cake By The Ocean". As curious as I was, I started searching for the band who was performing this song. To my surprise, "Cake By The Ocean" is the debut single by an American band DNCE which was released on 18 September 2015 and in fact, Joe Jonas is one of the members in the band! According to Joe on MTV News, "I had an idea to start a band on my own for quite a while and was waiting for the right time. I have known Jack and JinJoo for years, almost 10 years at this point, and played on and off with both of them and Cole just fell into our laps at the perfect moment and we formed DNCE." Besides, the song is the lead single from their debut EP "SWAAY". The writers of "Cake by The Ocean" include Joe Jonas himself, Justin Tranter, and the Swedish duo Mattman and Robin. Initially, the Swedish producers actually misunderstood the phrase "Sex On The Beach" with "Cake By The Ocean". Hence that is how the title of the song formed.

“Working on the record, these Swedish producers that we were working with, they kept confusing ’sex on the beach’ with ’cake by the ocean,’ so that’s how the song started....Then, it became this kind of lyrically wacky song, and it kind of embodies the band. It’s funky, it’s fresh, I think it’s something that people can dance to.” -Joe Jonas on MTV News.
