Recently Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes has released his new song 'Treat You Better" which is also the lead single from his upcoming album "Illuminate". The music video features a scene revolving around a situation of violence between couples. A girl was shown being abused by her boyfriend whereas Mendes hopes to be with her and struggles to understand why the girl is still with the man. In addition, it also highlights the importance of eradicating domestic violence issues. Shawn explained that there were two stories going on at the same time in the music video.

According to Shawn in a behind-the-scenes clip posted by Buzzfeed, "This girl is in an abusive relationship with this guy and you kind of see her struggle with, 'Do I love him?' (and) what she goes through kind of rebelling a bit... and on the other hand, it's me and kind of this alternative reality where I'm stuck inside of this room, I'm kind of trapped." He further added, "it's almost like I've been in here forever and I can't get out, as much as I want to help the girl, I can't get out of this thing 'cause there's something out there that's not letting me."
